One of the blessings of owning a country wedding and event venue is that beauty surrounds us. The peacefulness of quiet times at the pond, gathering by a bonfire, watching wildlife passing through the property; all moments that remind us to be present, to breathe, and to really experience beauty swirling all

around us. Allow me to share one moment.

One Saturday evening, I found myself on the party barn porch, clearing garbage from the wedding reception inside. We try to do this unobtrusive to guests as part of their experience on our property. Suddenly, through the French doors, an older lady with a seven-year-old girl in tow, seat themselves at a table on the porch. From her style and elegance, it was apparent that this was either the mother of the bride or the groom. The little girl was clearly dressed as part of the wedding party.

She took the little girl’s hands into her own, “Do you know what today means?’ she asked.

Sheepishly, “I think so….”

“Today, you are officially part of my family! I AM SO HAPPY!! Technically, I become your grandma. Now, I know you already have two grandmas, and you don’t have to call me ‘Grandma’ unless you want to. But from this day forward, and for the rest of your life, I will act as your grandma and be there for you anytime you need me.” At that, the little girl leapt up, hugged her new grandma, and stepped into a new,

loving, supportive, family.

Beautiful.

A moment of tenderness extended to a child whose whole life has changed in an instant with the blending of two families. A moment of wisdom. A moment of compassion and caring. A moment when love blossomed before my eyes. I was blessed to be in the right place, at the right time, to bear witness to this beautiful exchange.
